Neil Taylor - Australian
Neil uses acrylics.
Some acrylics have an unpleasant plastic gloss to them, but there are some brands that produce a more matte finish.
Jock Young - Australian

Oil and Wax on Linen, 200 x 130 cm
.
John Beard has won some of the most prestigious art prizes in Australia.
His use of a subdued, limited palette (often black and white), and nebulous textures (via use of wax) on a large scale, produces an abstract, poetic effect, like that of Far Eastern ink paintings.

Charlie Baird - Scottish
Gulls, 40 x 45 inches

Though it evokes a recognisable subject, the simplicity of this work pushes it toward abstraction. Abstract elements, such as pattern, can lend visual power to a painting.
