Monhegan Island.
Painting with a limited palette (in this case almost monochrome) can create powerful images, and allows the artist to concentrate on elements of painting other than color, such as tone, brushwork and composition.

There is one painting of an English man-o'-war of Nelson's era in your gallery marked "unknown". I believe this is the work of Geoff Hunt done for the cover of Patrick O'Brian's book "The Yellow Admiral". I think the ship is HMS Bellonia.
