This may be a marine scene, or the shore of a lake. Dark conifers provide a strong tonal contrast to the white clouds and foam.

A large proportion of the artists are from the US simply because their work seems to be easier to find on the internet, and perhaps the genre is more popular there, but suggestions of famous painters from other countries (and for the blog in general) are welcome.

love the contrasts in this painrting!
Hi Nat. Me too. When I first attempted landscapes in oils I was always afraid of using strong tonal contrasts. Now I look for them first in a scene - easier in places like Australia or the Mediterranean with their bright sunlight and shadow, than in the Grey UK.
