Sunlight through fog

Here's a link to an article about William Ritschel and his ability to capture the iridescent effect of sunlight through fog, a condition often found on the west coast of the US.

This is one of my alltime favourite paintings! I was out on the coast yesterday, trying to capture a local headland in the mist, it was so tricky! makes you really appreciate how good this painting is!

Ritschel's seascapes are wonderful. I'd love to find a better quality reproduction of this paining. Must try to track down a good book on his work.
